I am still reeling from the auditory bliss at the Newport Folk Festival this weekend. The Decemberists, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Justin Townes Earle, The Head and the Heart, Wanda Jackson, The Civil Wars, Emmylou Harris, and Elvis Costello*.
(*I feel compelled to point out here that in his set Elvis sang the rarely-performed “Brilliant Mistake,” from 1986’s sublime The King of America album. Interestingly enough, I entitled my last post Brilliant Mistake in honor of that very song. Coincidence? I think not. Surely Elvis was sending me a secret message that he requites my undying love for him, right? RIGHT? By the way, I did not transgress the court-mandated 100-yard radius. Kidding! I’m kidding!)
Anyhoo: music. This week’s playlist pays homage to the festival, kicking off with The Decemberists, and closing with Elvis and The Civil Wars. Also, that kickin’ Passion Pit Remix of the Cold War Kids’ “Mine is Yours.”
